Maynard Farm, Bovina, Catskills
The Maynard family have the distinction of being the first settlers in Bovina. Elisha Maynard, a Revolutionary War veteran, and several friends scouted the Bovina countryside in 1791 and eventually decided on the area for his farm. He cleared a small piece of land, built a small cabin and sowed some winter rye. In the spring of the following year, Elisha brought his family from Westchester County in New York to join him at their new home. Elisha Maynard and his wife Esther would have 11 children and gave birth to the township of Bovina.
