Awakening of Rip Van Winkle. Catskill Mts., N.Y.
The caption on the reverse side reads: “Rip Van Winkle, Washington Irving’s famed character, is closely allied with the Catskill Mountains. Fleeing his shrewish wife, he drank from a magic flagon and slept of twenty years. He watched Henry Hudson’s crew rolling ten pins and on awaking, found himself a stranger in his own village.”
The postcard, depicting Rip Van Winkle as he slumbers during his famous 20-year nap, was published by George Greenberg & Son of Catskill, New York. The postcard was never mailed.
