Henry Hudson
Henry Hudson, a citizen of London and known to history only in the four years, 1607-1611. Cast adrift by a mutinous crew and left to perish in Hudson Bay June 22d, 1611. Made four voyages to America. Sailed from Amsterdam on third voyage, April 14th, 1609, in the "Half Moon." Anchored inside New York Bay September 3d. September 12th entered the Hudson and reached the present site of Albany September 19th. Sailed for England October 4th, and arrived at Dartmouth November 7th. This voyage led directly to the settlement of New York City.
