Mountain Railroad 675

Catskill Mountain Railroad, Kingston, Ulster County

The Catskill Mountain Railroad (CMRR) is a popular tourist railroad that was founded in 1982. Operating along a section of what was the Ulster and Delaware line, which followed much of what is today’s Route 28, the CMRR offered a wonderfully scenic photographic opportunity with trains, rails, and depot station all evoking memories of yester-year. Unfortunately, the CMRR on the Phoenicia – Mount Tremper section ceased operations in 2016 when their lease with Ulster County for the rail tracks expired.

Fortunately, the 5-mile Kingston section continues to operate, leaving from Chandler Drive in Kingston and traveling to Stony Hollow. It operates along the tracks of the former New York Central Railroad. Approximately 37,000 visitors take a ride on the railroad each year, including themed events such as the Easter Bunny Express, the Great Train Robbery, the Catskill Fall Flyer and the Polar Express.

CMRR No. 675 is a refurbished N5B caboose (ex-Pennsylvania Railroad 477672, Penn Central 22800, Conrail 20003).
