Cory
Kingston, Ulster County
The 3-story, 5-bay Cory building on Wall Street in the Stockade District of Kingston was constructed circa 1900 in the Queen Anne architectural style. In its early days the building was occupied by the Grand Union Tea Company, then Everett’s Bakery, and then the Grand Union Grocery Stores Company. Following Grand Union, the J.C. Penney department store occupied the building for nearly 55 years from the late 1920s until 1982, when it moved to the Hudson Valley Mall. The building falls within the Kingston Stockade District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
