Vintage postcard of the McLean Bridge over the Delware River at South Kortright in Delaware County, New York.

McLean Bridge, South Kortright, N.Y.

The McLean Bridge in South Kortright was built by James McLean in 1900. The stone arch bridge replaced an earlier iron bridge. The bridge spans the Delaware River. The upcoming construction of the bridge was mentioned in the Engineering News publication, March 8, 1900, volume XLIII, No. 10.

The Stamford Recorder newspaper of March 3, 1900 wrote: “James McLean of New York who has a summer home at South Kortright, has offered to construct a fine arch bridge across the Delaware at that place. The bridge will replace the present iron one and will be much wider and of architectural beauty. It is understood that the towns of Stamford and Kortright have accepted his offer and work will be commenced in the spring.”

No publisher name is listed on the reverse side. The postcard was manufactured in Germany. It was never mailed.
