The Stuyvesant, Kingston, N. Y.
The Stockade District of Kingston is a several block area in the uptown area packed with history, mesmerizing architecture and centuries-old buildings. Scenic building facades can be found throughout the entire Uptown area. This particular building was designed by J.A. Wood, a noted regional architect, and constructed in 1910 as home to the grand 150-room Stuyvesant Hotel. By the 1980s the building was vacant and in significant disrepair. The historic building was then purchased in 1991 by the Rural Ulster Preservation Company (RUPCO), a local community development organization, wonderfully restored and now serves as a wonderful Italian restaurant as well as senior and low-income housing for the community.
