The hamlet of Shady is located in the town of Woodstock in Ulster County, New York. The Shady Valley was named for the surrounding high mountains that limit direct sunlight to a few hours per day. Overlook Mountain holds a special place in the hearts of local residents. Today there is a popular hiking trail to the summit, which features an historic fire tower and commanding views. The postcard was published by the U.S. Co. of Kingston, New York. The postmark on the reverse side shows that it was mailed in 1918.
