Picturesque Curve On Mohican Trail, East Windham, N.Y.
The Kingston News Service published this beautiful postcard showing a curve in the highway known as the Mohican Trail, which travels through the northern Catskills. The Mohican Trail, completed in 1922, follows state Route 23 through Greene County. The highway “trails” through the mountains were created in the early 20th century as part of marketing campaigns to encourage travelers to visit the attractions and accommodations of the region. The Mohican Trail included towns such as Catskill, Leeds, Cairo, Acra, Windham, Prattsville, Grand Gorge and Stamford.
