RIP Kutsher's
Thompson, Sullivan County
The once world famous Kutsher’s was a grand resort located in the Borscht Belt region of the southern Catskills. Like many of its peers, such as Grossinger’s, the Concord Hotel, and the Pines Hotel, Kutsher’s was an all inclusive resort with meals, entertainment and activities such as golf, tennis, pools and a health club. The family owned and operated resort is reputed to be the inspiration behind the fictional movie Dirty Dancing.
Despite being the last surviving Borsht Belt resort, Kutsher’s could not stem the tide of time and closed in 2013. Today, many of the buildings have been demolished, with only a few remaining buildings left standing. The property has been sold to developers with plans to construct a modern health and wellness center.
