"New Ambrotypes. The Best Yet!
I now take the pleasure of stating to the public, that I have a new style of Picture, taken upon glass, which are as yet superior to anything of that kind – their richness and luster, as well as depth and variety of tone, making them unrivalled for beauty, for accuracy and fidelity to nature, by anything in the Photographic art.
These beautiful Ambrotypes not only combine all the excellencies of Modern Art, but are taken so quickly that the sitter preserves the natural expression of features, which are often quite fatigued and changed under the slower process of the Daguerreotype.
The beautiful Ambrotype, improved by recent discoveries, and which are so much admired by all, are likewise taken so cheap as to place them within the reach of all who would like a correct and perfect Likeness of themselves and friends. No one needs to stand and consider the COST when they can procure for Twenty Five Cents as facsimile of themselves, which will stand for ages and remain unchanged either by time or weather. Then come while the opportunity yet remains, for remember that the beautiful Ambrotypes are taken only at "Thorn's Excelsior Picture Gallery," at the corner of Main and Partition streets, Saugerties. Come at least and examine specimens, and so satisfy yourselves if you have no faith in the hearsay of others, for the one who has once seen the beautiful Ambrotype as taken by G. Thorn, will not wish to leave until they have theirs also.
For adults a cloudy day is immaterial, but remember to bring the children, especially if young, in fair weather.
G. THORN, Saugerties, Aug. 15th, 1856."
