Red Hill, Denning, Ulster County

Red Hill summit, despite its diminutive stature at 2,990 feet, offers impressive views with the aid of its 60 foot fire tower, more impressive than a short 2.4 mile roundtrip hike would have you expect. The 360-degree panorama provides views of dozens of mountains, but is dominated by Peekamoose (3,843 feet) and Table 3,847 feet) Mountains to the east; the Slide Mountain wilderness area to the northeast; and Doubletop (3,870 feet), Graham (3,868 feet) and Balsam Lake (3,730 feet) to the north. Frost Valley YMCA’s educational camp, on Denning Road, can be seen below. There are also southeasterly views to the Shawangunk Mountains and the Hudson Valley; and southwest to the Poconos.
