Loch Sheldrake, N.Y.
The hamlet of Loch Sheldrake is located in the town of Fallsburg in Sullivan County, New York. The lake, with the same Loch Sheldrake name, is the main focal point of the hamlet. The hamlet was once home to a thriving resort business that included over 60 hotels. One of the last remaining establishments was the nationally known Brown’s Hotel, until it too closed in the 1990s.
The lake was formerly known as Sheldrake Pond, but changed names to seem more attractive to the visitors as tourism in the region boomed. The lake has a surface area of 64 acres and a shoreline length of 1.3 miles. The hamlet takes its name from the lake, which in turn takes its name from the wild ducks that lived there.
The postcard was published by photographer Otto Hillig of Liberty, New York. The postcard was never mailed.
