Air View of Catskill, Catskill Creek, Rip Van Winkle Bridge and Hudson River

The Rip Van Winkle Bridge was constructed at a cost for $2.4 million from 1933 to 1935 by the New York State Bridge Authority. The bridge opened to the public on July 2, 1935. Today the bridge, which connects the town of Catskill on the east side of the Hudson River to the town of Hudson on the west side of the Hudson River, continues as a vital link between communities, transporting approximately 15,000 cars a day on Route 23 as it crosses the bridge. The bridge is 5,040 feet long and 30 feet wide.
