Purebred Holsteins in a Mountain Setting
Famed photographer Bob Wyer took this country photograph of a herd of cows in the fields of a Delaware County farm. The postcard is titled “Purebred Holsteins in a Mountain Setting” or alternatively “Greetings from Stamford, N.Y.” The postmark on the reverse side shows that the postcard was mailed in 1971.
Holstein cows are one of the most prominent of the dairy breeds in the United States. They are easily recognized by their distinctive black and white markings. Holstein cows are known for their outstanding milk production, with the average cow producing over 9 gallons of milk per day.
