Vintage postcard depicting the historic Howland House in Mount Tremper, New York.

Howland House, Mt. Tremper, Catskill Mts., N.Y.

The historic Howland House was originally constructed in the 1860s at the hamlet of Mount Tremper in the Catskill Mountains. The establishment has previously operated as the Four Corners and more recently as the popular French restaurant La Duchesse Anne. The Howland House was purchased by Eva and William Clark in 2019 and faithfully restored over the next couple of years.

In a 1929 newspaper advertisement the owner of the Howland House noted that it had “25 rooms; fully furnished and equipped; exceptional opportunity for one wishing to run boys or girls camp, boarding house or sanitarium; large acreage; all sports; excellent location for real estate development; would lease for term of years or sell.” (Brooklyn Daily Eagle. June 16, 1929.)

The vintage postcard was published by W. R. Ingersoll of Mount Tremper, New York. The postcard was never mailed.
