View from Franklin Mountain
Franklin Mountain, measuring 2,066 feet, is located south of Oneonta. The mountain is home to the Franklin Mountain Hawk Watch within the Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society Sanctuary. The watch area offers panoramic views of the Susquehanna River Valley and the surrounding hills of Delaware and Otsego counties. The watch was first established to allow for scientific survey of fall raptor migration. It is considered one of the top spots in the northeast to observe migrating golden eagles and approximately 16 other species of migrating raptors. The 100-acre property also provides hiking trails through a variety of natural habitats such as fields, old pastures and forests.
The postcard was published by famed photographer Bob Wyer of Delhi, New York. The postmark on the reverse side shows that it was mailed in 1980.
