Driving one day up to the Catskills I took some of the more local roads and highways, rather than the interstate. During the drive, always on the lookout, I came across this abandoned gas station known as “High Test.” Although it had clearly been out of business for a long time, it still retained an element of nostalgic charm, reminding you of bygone days when someone pumped your gas, someone that you probably knew personally by first name, and they always checked the oil with every fill-up.
The business appears to have offered a range of services, including pumping gas, washing and waxing cars, auto maintenance and repair and operating as a small car dealership. The repair section of the business must have been popular as it utilized a 3-bay garage. The business was affiliated with the Mobil gas company.
