My grandfather Hart and his first cousin, Wilton Nestell Anderson ( who took photographs later of his family at Blue Hole around 1910) first camped on Riondout Creek when they were 14 and 15, around 1880. Just those two. Train from NYC, boat across, maybe train to Olive, and Charley Warson’s buckboard to Flat Rock. In 1908 they and ten others bought 25 acres 2 miles from Buttermillk above the Gulf Road near Blue Hole and paid Nr Ackerley $250 to build them a log cabin, still standing. my father as a youngster hiked up Peakamoose Mountain and back by the Falls many times, as did I. The 25 acres are for sale. Pretty country.
