The Ostrander-Elmendorf House is located in the hamlet of Hurley in Ulster County, New York.
The house lot was originally set aside as the minister’s lot. The lot was then purchased by Pieter P. Ostrander, who, in turn, sold it to his son Arent Ostrander, who built the house around 1715. The stone house as seen today was built in three sections, as revealed by construction joints in the ruble stone masonry. The second addition to the east was built as a weaving room.
In the 18th century, the Half Moon Tavern operated in a section of the house. The tavern was named for the ship of English explorer Henry Hudson as he travelled the Hudson River and Catskill region.
Petrus Elmendorf purchased the house in 1804, with the house then being passed down through several generations of the Elmendorf family.
The Ostrander-Elmendorf House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of Hurley Historic District.
