Buttermilk Falls, also known as Horseshoe Mine Falls, is a beautiful 60-foot waterfall located about five miles south of Ellenville in the hamlet of Spring Glen, New York.
The water of Buttermilk Falls, sourced from an unnamed creek, flows down a gently sloping rock face and over an old mine opening on its journey to feeding the Sandburg Creek which, in turn, flows north through Ellenville to its confluence with the Rondout Creek.
At the base of Buttermilk Falls is the opening for the former Horseshoe Mine, a former exploratory mine which tunnels into the mountainside for several hundred feet.
