Nevele Falls is a delightful 50-foot roadside waterfall located just outside of Ellenville along the South Gully in the Shawangunk Mountains. Stories say that eleven school teachers were visiting the waterfall in the 1800s and decided to name the falls Nevele (i.e. eleven spelled backwards) in memory of their group.
The nearby Nevele Grand Resort, which took its name from the waterfall, was, for over a century until its 2009 closing, one of the most famous hotels in the Borscht Belt of the Catskills, having even played host to U.S. President Lyndon Johnson in 1966 during his regional visit.
